Thoracic Spine - ventrodorsal canine veterinary X-ray positioning guide

 

Positioning

  • Dorsal recumbency
  • Cradle (or sandbags) can be used under pelvis
  • Extend thoracic limbs cranially
  • Ensure not rotated
  • Centre over T6-7, in midline
  • Collimate to include entire thoracic spine
  • Ensure L/R marker in primary beam.

What to look for

  • Ensure not rotated - look for sternum to be superimposed over the spine.

Top tips

  • If the dog keeps rotating a thin foam pad under the spine can help - especially on thin dogs
