The fourth annual Vet Charity Challenge this year was held at Cannock Chase in Staffordshire. The day was basked in sunshine and beautiful countryside. Thirty teams of four spent the day walking/running, cycling and kayaking as well as some orienteering and mental and physical tasks.
The aim of the day is to have fun, build teamwork within your practice and also raise funds for animal based charities. So far the Vet Charity Challenge has raised over £100,000. In 2015 the charities being supported are Canine Partners, SPANA and International Cat Care.
Jason Rogers from BCF Technology commented, “This year has been the best Challenge so far. All the teams really entered into the spirit of the day and had great fun. The build a go-kart, then race it part of the event was such a laugh. It is such a fun way to raise some serious amounts of money for three great charities.”
Other comments from this year’s team members include:
“Great team building event with lots of fun and laughter, as well as hard work and in the end it benefits good charities and makes a difference.” Philippa Davis, Goddard Veterinary Group, London.
“The location was excellent, organisation fantastic and it was just an all-round excellent day!” Sam Leah, Dechra Desperados.
“Brilliant fun day and gave us a real sense of teamwork and achieving something together that wasn't just work related.” Jo Holly, Vets4Pets Chester.
“Definitely a challenge but the most amazing experience, meeting new people and really pushing yourself and so much fun.” Shane Kennedy, Pines Veterinary Clinic, Maidenhead.
“Fab feel good factor! Brilliant initiative - generates great team spirit whilst fundraising for animal charities through a really well organised event. Physically and tactically challenging, great fun - and you definitely feel you've earned your sponsor money at the end of the day.” Rachel Duncan, 387 Veterinary Centre, Great Wyrley, Staffordshire.
The winning student team were the RVC Roadrunners and the overall winners were the Relentless Castle Vets, from Castle Vets in Barnard Castle, County Durham. Amazingly, they collected all 1,000 points available on the day.
The Challenge is sponsored by BCF Technology, Dechra Veterinary Products and Kruuse also supported by the VMPA, Mojo Consultancy and Veterinary Practice magazine.
